Ah! My Goddess Ch. 246 Manga Review

SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

Chibi-Hild arrives at Whilrwind with Skuld. When Belldandy asks for her help, Skuld is naturally eager to help “oneesama” on any dangerous mission, but when Urd mentions that it is a mission to Niflheim, Skuld starts having second thoughts but can’t back down now. Chibi-Hild lays out what will have to be done in order to restore her to the position of Daimakaicho, which will start with Chibi-Hild unsealing her real body. In order to get Hagal to release the codes of Nidheg, Niflheim’s control system, Skuld produces “Excellent Talking-kun” in order take over Hagal’s brain, but Chibi-Hild has to point out a flaw with the device which kills Skuld’s idea.

Another thing that will have to be done is get through a gate into Niflheim. Hild had one installed right near the temple residence of Keiichi and company, so she teleports them there and reveals the gate. Since there are checks in place to prevent accidental crossovers, the first is that one has to enter the gate at 80KPH. Chibi-Hild proposes having Keiichi use her “broom” Dragon Flame Death Heart” in order to reach that speed. Next, the approval of three demons (mazoku) are required. Chibi-Hild will be the first approver, Welsper will be the second, and Mara, who’s managed to drag herself to their current location, is the third.

What an absolute delight this story arc has been and continues to be. There’s not only the sense of fun and adventure, but there are nice humor moments to make me smile and even laugh some. I know I’ve mentioned this before, but Ah! My Goddess has been a “blah” manga for a very long time. Having this current story arc be so entertaining reminds me why I’ve followed the manga for so many years. If Fujishima-sensei is wrapping up the manga like I suspect, this will be the perfect arc to do it with.

As to the chapter itself, I got a kick out of both Skuld and Welsper being all down for helping Belldandy out until they learned the trip was to Niflheim. Welsper gets the added bonus of telling off Hild before realizing whom it was that he was addressing. *lol* She may be in her mini size and she may be dethroned, but Hild is still plenty powerful.

Yay for Mara’s return. ^_^ I had a feeling that we might see her again in this story arc and it looks like she may play an important part — or rather that’s my hope. If Fujishima-sensei is going to end the manga sooner rather than later, I’d like to see Mara get to do things and be developed a bit more.

Hopefully, Peorth and Lind make it in time to get to Niflheim. I’m pretty sure they will, otherwise why bring them both into the current story arc?
